Wotton Rovers U15s 1 - 0 Whiteshill U15s

Sunday 11 September 2005

Last season's champions visited last season's runners up on Sunday and after a hard fought encounter Wotton ran out winners. Wotton started brightly with Strickland and Hemmings causing problems down the flanks. Up front Iddles and Williams were putting the Whiteshill defence under pressure and it was Williams who scored after a dangerous corner from Hemmings. The visitors responded and created two good scoring opportunities one of which was brilliantly saved by Hanbury in the Wotton goal. The hosts midfield pair, Blakeney and Billingsley worked hard to protect their defence and the score remained one nil until half time.

Playing down the slope in the second half Whiteshill put Wotton under pressure but were unable to break through an outstanding back four of Ford, Higgs, Minter and Bates. The fresh legs of substitutes Caley and Lewis aided Wotton's efforts but it was Hanbury who clinched victory for his side with another brilliant save in the last few minutes. This was a determined, brave and committed performance by the whole Wotton team against a good Whiteshill side.
