Under 12 Girls Team Match Reports

Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s 3 – 7 Phoenix Bitton (Girls) U12s

Sunday 30 October 2005Sharp

Phoenix forward play exploited another slow Wotton start to run up four early goals. Beth Jackson shored up the Rovers defence and then Lucy Trotman, strong under pressure from Phoenix defenders, turned well and scored an excellent goal. Nevertheless, Phoenix went into the break 6-1 ahead. In a contrasting second half, Wotton exerted considerable pressure (including a Penalty well-saved by the Phoenix keeper), more determination to cover back and some good saves from Mattie Smith. Eva Gilder-Hodgson, Wotton's hardest working player, was rewarded with a well-taken goal from a Beth Jackson corner and Lucy Trotman, prominent in most Wotton attacks, scored again. Rovers can be very encouraged by the second half performance.

Scorers: Lucy Trotman x2 ; Eva Gilder-Hodgson

Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s 1 – 9 Keynsham Town (Girls) U12s

Sunday 16 October 2005

Keynsham scored in the first few minutes catching the Wotton defence napping. Rovers threatened to equalise but an unfortunate injury to striker Beth Jackson reduced the momentum and Keynsham were leading 4-0 at half time. After the break, despite brave performances from Beth Jackson (returning in defence), new Goalkeeper Hannah Wolfe and determined tackling from Emily Jenner, Rovers struggled to contain well-organised attacks, which increased the Keynsham lead. However Wotton took every opportunity to attack producing some good passing moves which resulted in half a dozen near misses at the other end. Finally Rosie Kells scored an excellent goal for Wotton having run most of the length of the pitch in a fine solo effort.

Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s 1 – 1 Frys Club (Girls) U12s

Sunday 2 October 2005

Early Wotton pressure forced several saves from the Fry's Keeper with shots from Hollie Ind, Beth Jackson and Lauren Chappell. Fry's opened the scoring somewhat against the early run of play but Rovers pressed on and a strong Molly Chinner run resulted in a goal mouth scramble with Lauren Chappell on hand to equalise. An exciting second half saw both Keepers very busy but ultimately no scoring. Mattie Smith made a number of important saves to keep Wotton in the game. Defenders Emma Topping and Lucy Trotman were also highly influential producing quality posession and constructing new Wotton attacks from the back.

Portishead (Girls) U12s 7 – 0 Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s

Sunday 25 September 2005

A difficult away fixture against the current League leaders and one of the first Portishead attacks opened the score with the Wotton defence napping. Rovers quickly rallied with Lucy Trotman closest to scoring from a corner. However Wotton found it difficult to contain a well-drilled Portishead side all of the time and the home side's lead gradually increased. Nevertheless this enthusiastic Wotton side played positive attacking football throughout. Incisive running and passing from Molly Chinner and Beth Jackson created opportunities and Rovers had several good shots on target from Eva Gilder, Rosie Kells and Lucy Trotman.

Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s 1 – 5 Clevedon Town (Girls) U12s

Sunday 18 September 2005

The Wotton defence soaked up considerable early pressure but an unfortunate handball allowed Clevedon to open the scoring from the penalty spot. Nevertheless good midfield passing and threatening long range throws from Emma Topping and Beth Jackson created opportunities and the introduction of Lauren Chappell strengthened the Rovers attack. After two near misses, Lauren equalised with an excellent shot. Although Clevedon scored again before the break, the match remained in the balance at half time. In the second half, despite a magnificent performance from keeper Mattie Smith, Rovers were not always able to contain a strong Clevedon attack who extended their lead to win 5 -1.

Wotton Rovers (Girls) U12s 1 - 6 Cadbury Heath (Girls) U12s

Sunday 11 September 2005

First game of the season and Wotton were keen to make an impression. Some fine running with the ball by Lucy Trotman, Beth Jackson and Lauren Chapell unsettled the Cadbury Heath defence but frustratingly did not result in a first half score. Cadbury Heath, at first shaken by the Wotton attack, recovered their composure and began to threaten the Wotton goal. Mature and determined defensive work by Rosie Kells and Emma Topping(c) combined with a solid performance by first-time goalkeeper Mattie Smith to see Wotton still very much in the game at half time (1-0 down). Unfortunately Wotton were not able to sustain this in the second half and Cadbury Heath scored some excellent goals. Despite this however, the whole Wotton Team continued to produce good passing moves until the end of the game, one of which was very coolly finished by Hollie Ind to give Wotton a well deserved consolation goal.
