Under 8 Team Match Reports

Slimbridge U8s 0 - 10 Wotton Rovers B U8s

Saturday 29 October 2005

Wotton put in another outstanding performance against a well organised Slimbridge team. From the first minute Pring was causing problems running at the Slimbridge defence and with Frost, Stokes and Shine supporting it wasn’t long before Pring got his first of the match. Wotton continued to push forward with the whole team playing some excellent football.

The Wotton defence of Shimman, Gilder and George were working really hard to keep out the Slimbridge strikers and with an excellent goal line clearance by Pring and the excellent kicking of goalkeeper Schofield the Wotton goal continues to lead a charmed life.

It wasn’t long before more great attacking play by Colston allowed Stokes to score his first of the game with a superb finish. Frost and Boulton worked hard to create chances for both Pring and Stokes which they both converted to move the score onto 4-0. Shine then produced the goal of the game, picking the ball up just outside the box he moved through the Slimbridge defence before coolly slotting the ball home. Pring then completed a well deserved hat-trick to take Wotton in 6-0 at half time.

Wotton pushed for more goals in the second half and it didn’t take long for Shine to help Pring score his fourth of the game with another excellent pass and finish. In the meantime, the defensive trio of George, Gilder and Shimman and goalkeeper Schofield were still being made to work really hard to keep the Slimbridge attackers out. Stokes then rounded the keeper to finish off a great run and complete another hat-trick. Goals four and five quickly followed for Stokes after a couple of neat passes from Frost and Boulton, this rounded off the goal scoring for Wotton.

This was another excellent display of passing and attacking football, in which both teams can take great credit their hard work and determination. Player of the week for Wotton was again Cameron Pring.

Minchinhampton U8s 1 – 5 Wotton Rovers A U8s

Saturday 22 October 2005

A strong performance all round gave Wotton their first win of the season. This was a game in which each of the players contributed whole-heartedly and included some neat passing moves and incisive attacks. Two up at half time Wotton withstood pressure early on in the second half until they conceded a goal from a corner. This only spurred them on even more and it was all Wotton for the rest of the game. Tobie Jotcham capped another fine display with a goal and Sean Slater hit the fifth with a well struck low shot but it was Sam Butter's hat trick, his first goals in a competitive game, that made him Wotton's Player of the Week.

Cirencester Town U8s 5 – 1 Wotton Rovers A U8s

Sunday 16 October 2006

Despite the disappointing score line this was a performance by Wotton As that showed real promise against a very well organised team and one that shows the team is progressing. Wotton tackled well in midfield forcing a number of chances to shoot. Sam Butter, Reece Dix and Alfie Hunt all came close but it was a long range shot in the second half by Tobie Jotcham that proved too hot to handle for the Cirencester Town goalkeeper. Player of the week was Sean Slater for some tenacious tackling and good passing.

Wotton Rovers B U8s 10 – 0 Everside

Saturday 15 October 2005

Against a well organised Everside team Wotton produced their best performance of the season so far. From the first minute the midfield trio of Frost, Stokes and Pring were busy creating chances for Colston and Boulton. It was from one of these chances that Wotton took the lead with Colston scoring with a great finish. The excellent defensive duo of Shimman and George and the brave goalkeeping of Schofield kept Everside chances to a minimum.Wotton continued to play great football, moving forward with every opportunity. It wasn’t long before Stokes got himself on the score sheet with two excellent goals, Boulton with a tidy finish added the fourth before Shimman scored a scorcher from the edge of the box to help Wotton go in 5-0 at the break. The second half started much like the first with Wotton pushing forward searching for more goals, but to their credit Everside were working hard trying to create chances for themselves. Stokes soon added another two goals to complete another excellent hat-trick and move his tally on to four in the game. Shimman and George were continuing to push forward from defence causing problems for the hardworking Everside players and Schofield continued to show great agility in the Wotton goal. Frost helped Colston score his second of the match with another great pass before the tireless Pring scored his first with a wonderful finish. Colston soon grabbed the last goal of the game to complete a great hat-trick.This really was an excellent game of football, played in great spirit by two sets of very hardworking players. Player of the week for Wotton was Cameron Pring.

Wotton Rovers A U8s 0 – 3 Wotton Rovers B U8s

Saturday 8 October 2005

As local derbies go this one could not have been more eagerly awaited as Wotton’s two Under 8s teams met in the league for the first time. While the ‘B’ team were clearly stronger with the midfield of Shine, Reed, George and Stokes working hard to create chances for Boulton and Colston it took an unfortunate own goal from a well taken free kick to break the deadlock. There were some great saves by Beckett and defending by Rivers-Cole and Jotcham for the A team to keep the score-line one nil at the break. Both sides took a well earned rest but the ‘B’s came out really strongly in the second half scoring within a minute through a well taken shot by Chris Colston. This woke up the ‘A’s who continued to defend bravely and with the midfield combining well with the strikers created a couple of chances, with Butter coming close. It took some hard work in defence by both Shimman and Gilder to keep the A team at bay with Schofield again giving a solid display in the ‘B’ team goal. Joe Stokes added a third with a well placed shot from outside the area. Both sides did themselves justice and provided an excellent display of how football should be played, even at under 8s. Player of the week for the A team was Jack Beckett who volunteered to play in goal at the last minute and joint Players of the week for the B team were Chris Colston and Jordan Boulton.

Wotton Rovers A U8s 1 – 3 Cirencester U8s

Saturday 24 September 2005

A goal within the first minute for Cirencester made this an uphill struggle for Wotton. Despite this Wotton played with great conviction with Callum Rivers-Cole and Sean Slater both making good tackles and runs. The Cirencester team passed the ball well and pressed further to score another goal. Wotton were not put off and continued to play well on the break. Alfie Hunt’s fine run from the half way line past three opponents forced an own goal leaving the score 2:1 at half time. The second half was evenly matched with both sides having a number of chances but it was Cirencester who scored with a well taken goal. The game gave great entertainment to all who came to watch and everyone in the Wotton team enjoyed their game despite the result. Player of the week goes to Alfie Hunt for his run that led to Wotton’s goal.
